What does a complete grow box kit contain?

A typical kit includes: a grow tent (lightproof, reflective inside), an LED lamp, an air extractor with activated carbon filter, a circulation fan, a hygrometer/thermometer, a timer, hangers, and cable passages. Soil, pots, and fertilizer are generally not included.

What size grow box to start with?

For beginners, we recommend 60×60 cm or 80×80 cm. These sizes are easy to manage, energy-efficient, and sufficient for 1 to 4 plants. Larger tents require more experience for climate control and watering.

How much does a grow box consume?

A 60er kit with 100 W LED consumes about 30 to 50 kWh/month (€8 to €13 of electricity in France). A 120er kit with 480 W LED about 150 to 220 kWh/month (€38 to €55). LEDs are significantly more economical than old HPS/MH lamps.

Complete grow box kit or separate purchase?

Kits are 15 to 30% cheaper than separate purchases and their components are coordinated. Separate purchase is only interesting if you already have experience and want to upgrade specific components.

What grow box for 3 plants?

For 3 plants, we recommend an 80×80 cm kit. This provides the necessary space for tilting techniques or SOG (Sea of Green). A 60×60 cm tent is too narrow for 3 plants, and a 100×100 cm kit would be wasteful. The Medium 80er kit with 240 W LED is the optimal choice.

How to avoid odors in the grow box?

Odors appear mainly during the flowering phase. Essential: a properly sized activated carbon filter (volume × 40–60 = m³/h). The filter must be replaced regularly (every 6 to 18 months). Low humidity (below 50%) further reduces odors. Seal all cable and ventilation openings with Velcro.

What humidity is optimal in the grow box?

During the growth phase: 50 to 70% (plants grow faster with higher humidity). During the flowering phase: 40 to 50% (keep low to minimize the risk of mold and botrytis). Below 35% is too dry; above 70% in flowering is dangerous. A digital hygrometer with min/max memory is essential.

Can I set up a grow box in a basement?

Yes — basements are often ideal: constant temperatures (16–20 °C), low outside temperatures help with cooling, no daylight leakage. Disadvantages: high natural humidity (hygrometer, even dehumidifier needed) and more difficult cable access. Ensure sufficient air extraction to the outside.

Size & space

What's in the kit?

The four essential components of any complete grow box kit — and what to pay attention to for each element.

Chamber & material

Quality kits use 600D Oxford cloth (thicker than cheap 300D). Inside, 95–99% reflective mylar maximizes light usage. Double zipper closures are essential for comfortable work.

LED & spectrum

Full-spectrum LEDs completely replace old 'blurple' panels. Basic rule: 50 W/m² minimum, 75 W/m² optimal. For 60×60 cm: 100 W · for 80×80 cm: 240 W · for 120×120 cm: 400–480 W. PPFD value matters more than indicated wattage.

Extraction & filter

Sizing formula: chamber volume (m³) × 40–60 = required flow rate in m³/h. For a 60er chamber (≈ 0.58 m³): at least 25 m³/h. Activated carbon filter lifespan: 6–18 months depending on humidity. Replace the flange every 6 months.

Climate & control

Optimal: 22–28 °C during the day, 18–22 °C at night. Humidity: 50–70% during growth, 40–50% during flowering. A digital hygro/thermometer with min/max memory is essential. In case of overheating: move the chamber to a cooler place or increase extraction.

04 / INSTALLATION

First steps: installation guide

In this order, beginners correctly set up their grow box — without the usual mistakes.

Assemble the chamber

Assemble the bars, attach the cloth — 20–30 min. Close all velcros and check for light tightness.

Install the LED

Attach the LED to the hangers. Starting distance from the top of the plants: 50–60 cm (full-spectrum). Neatly route the cables to the outside.

Install the extraction

Attach the activated carbon filter inside the chamber, mount the extractor on it, duct to the outside. Order: filter → extractor → outlet.

Position the circulation

Aim a small fan at stem height (never directly on the leaves). This strengthens the stems and prevents mold.

Climate & timer

Set the timer: 18 h/6 h (growth) or 12/12 (flowering). Place the hygrometer. Run for 24 h without plants and check the climate.

Potting afterwards

Calibrate the pH meter, prepare the pots (11 L for 1–2 plants, 16 L for larger ones) and the substrate. Only pot once the climate is stabilized.
